Welcome to Tribal Tattooing. Tribal tattoo work encompasses a wide variety of styles, but usually is characterized by bold, solid black designs. The origins of tribal tattooing are to be found in all areas of the world that have enjoyed a tradition of tattooing for centuries. The most popular tribal designs are those that originated in the South Sea Islands - Borneo, Polynesia, Micronesia and Samoa - but many motifs from cultures that did not practice tattooing are adopted as design possibilities in modern tattooing as well. Many tribal designs have been adapted, modernized and changed to suit a modern sense of aesthetics. Unfortunately, much of the original meanings and reasons for the application of these designs have been lost, but this does not detract from the beauty they possess. Tribal designs work well with the shape of the body, as they were mostly originally designed with that in mind. With tribal tattooing, the design possibilities are endless, as they lend themselves well to being fused with other designs, being done in colors other than black and possess a freedom of movement that many other designs might not. Because of this freedom, their blackness and expansiveness, they also work well as cover-up options in most cases.. Our only word of advice is, if you wish to explore particular tribal designs from particular cultures, do a little research into the history of the motifs, what they were originally intended for and where they were placed on the body. It shows respect for the cultures whose motifs you are adopting as you’re own and makes for interesting bits of knowledge that you might not have known before. But most importantly, it'll show you some of the magic inherent in this great culture of tattooing Our goal is to showcase some of the top tattoo artists in the world of tribal tattooing. To provide information about the artists, and show you the work they are doing.  If you, or someone you know specializes in this style of tattoing and would like to become a member, please contact us at Jake@tribaltattooartist.com or Dan@soulexpressionstattoo.com Any questions, comments or concerns are welcomed.....
